Regional update: One new case of COVID-19

Covid-19

MARIA – The Public Health Board is reporting one new case of COVID-19 in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands and no additional deaths.

The new case involves an individual from the Magdalen Islands, but that person was not in the Magdalen Islands upon testing positive.

The total number of positive cases in the region is 170. The number of casualties remain stable at eight. Four more people have recovered from the virus, for a total of 108. Two people are still hospitalized in Rimouski, but are not in intensive care. So far, 16 people from the region were hospitalized since the start of the pandemic. Forty individuals from the health sector have tested positive, 16 of them are Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS) employees.

The breakdown of the 170 cases by health region (containing a hospital) is as follows:

  • Bay of Chaleur sector – 128
  • Rocher-Percé sector – 26
  • Magdalen Islands – 9 (an increase of 1)
  • Côte-de-Gaspé – 5
  • Haute-Gaspésie – less than 5

Note: The Public Health Board does not release numbers in a sector if the number of cases is less than five.  The total of confirmed cases in a health region does not always correspond to the sum of cases in that health region (RLS) due to unknown values, data entry errors or transfers between regions. The total in one health region won’t necessarily correspond with the total for the outbreaks in that health region, since some cases are located (reside) in other health regions.

The totals for the province are as follows:

  • 2398 deaths (an increase of 118)
  • 33,417 positive cases (an increase of 794)
  • 1821 total hospitalizations (an increase of 49)
  • 218 people in intensive care (stable)
