The Public Health Board is reporting one new case of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 178.
The new case involves an employee of the Mgr Ross seniors’ residence in Gaspé. The positive was a result of systematically conducted tests that are done on CISSS employees throughout the province. The Mgr Ross seniors’ residence is a publicly owned CHSLD administered by the Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS).
As the case is very recent, the CISSS was not in a position to provide additional information as of May 22, and only mentioned that an epidemiological investigation is underway. The CISSS spokesperson did not know if the employee had been in contact with residents of the Mgr Ross facility.
Including today’s new case the total number of health sector employees who have contracted COVID-19 is now 45. Of those 45 individuals, 17 are CISSS employees.
In total 4062 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the region, including 550 during the past week.

The totals for the province are as follows:
- 3865 – deaths (an increase of 65)
- 46, 141 – positive cases (an increase of 646)
- 1479 – total hospitalizations (a decrease of 25)
- 171 – people in intensive care (a decrease of 5)
*As of May 19, the number of cured patients who are still hospitalized because they are waiting to be transferred will be excluded from the total number of hospitalizations. With the withdrawal of these patients, there is a significant decrease in the number of regular hospitalizations, but no decrease in the number of intensive care hospitalizations.
