Regional update: July 27th and 28th

The Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands Public Health Board reported one new case of COVID-19 on July 27. The following day, on July 28, the Public Health Board reported another three new cases. All four cases are located in the Haute-Gaspésie MRC and are currently under investigation.

According to Public Health the cases involve community transmission (weak). However, they state “it is important to remember that the diligent application of sanitary measures is essential to avoid the spread of the virus (washing hands, keeping a two metre distance, not going places if you have symptoms and getting tested).”


The management of the Cantine du Pecheur located in Cloridorme posted on social media that the canteen is closed until August 6 because an employee has tested positive for COVID-19. The entire staff was tested and is currently being quarantined as a precaution.


As of July 28, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands reached 200. Currently, there are no COVID-19 related hospitalizations from the region. Regionally, fifty-three health care workers have contracted the virus, 21 are CISSS employees.

The regional charts with more precise statistics by MRC are not available at this time, the Public Health Board promises they will be available on July 29.
