Regional update: Seven new cases of COVID-19
CARLETON – The Public Health Board is reporting seven new cases of COVID-19 in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands, for an overall total of 163.
Three of the new cases are related to the IGA (Paspebiac and New Richmond) outbreak. That epidemiological cluster now consists of 27 cases.
Three of the new cases are tied to known, but minor clusters.
The seventh case is still under investigation, as the Public Health Board is trying to locate the origin.
One additional person has recovered, for a total of 54. There are no additional deaths or hospitalizations to report. Two people are still hospitalized in Rimouski.
The number of healthcare employees with COVID- 19, increased from 34 to 38, over the last 24 hours. This does not necessarily mean that they received a positive diagnosis over the last day, sometimes the Public Health Board needs time before finalizing its investigations and statistics. Fourteen of the infected workers are employed by the Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS).
The breakdown of the 163 cases by territory (containing a hospital) is as follows:
- Bay of Chaleur sector – 123
- Rocher-Percé sector – 25
- Magdalen Islands – 8
- Côte-de-Gaspé – less than 5
- Haute-Gaspésie – less than 5
The Public Health Board does not release numbers in a sector with less than five cases.
