Regional update: Six more cases in the region, including two more at Saint-Joseph Residence

CARLETON – The number of people infected with COVID-19 in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands now stands at 96 cases, as of Easter day.

That is an increase of six cases in a day. The number of casualties remains at four, and all of them are linked to Maria’s Manoir du Havre outbreak. The number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations since the beginning of the pandemic remains at 11.

Two of the new cases are linked to the small outbreak that was reported on April 10 at the Residence Saint Joseph, also in Maria, which brings the total for that outbreak to five.

The cases stemming from the Manoir du Havre outbreak now totals 60, an increase of five in 24 hours. They represent 62.5% of the regional total.

According to the breakdown by “local service network” (where there is a hospital) there are 64 cases in the Bay of Chaleur area, 17 in the Rocher Percé area and eight cases in the Magdalen Islands. The breakdown for the Côte-du-Gaspé and Haute-Gaspésie is not available. The Regional Public Health board has implemented a statistical rule that a MRC must have at least five cases before the information regarding that MRC becomes available.

MARIA – There are six new cases of COVID-19 in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands bringing the regional total to 90.

The total number of casualties remains stable at four, all related to Maria’s Manoir du Havre outbreak.

There are currently of 11 COVID-19 related hospitalizations.

Fifty-five people have contracted COVID-19 as a result of the Manoir du Havre outbreak in Maria.

The total for Saint Joseph Residence remains at 3. That government-run residence is also located in Maria.
