  • Regional update: cases continue to spike as another seniors’ home is affected

    The number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands continue to spike as 17 new cases are announced by Public Health. Twelve of the cases are located in the MRC of Avignon, one in the MRC of Bonaventure, one in the Côte-de-Gaspé MRC, one in the Rocher-Percé MRC and two in the Magdalen Islands. Tracing is currently underway for all the new cases.

    Public Health states that the difference between provincial and regional statistics can be explained by the rapidly changing situation and that adjustments will be made over the next few days.

    CHSLD in Maria (Residence Saint-Joseph)

    According to Public Health, so far, 20 (+3) residents and 11 (+2) staff members at the Maria CHSLD (government owed long-term care facility) have tested positive for COVID-19.

    That CHSLD houses 91 residents and nearly 130 employees work there.

    Lady Maria (RPA – Private Seniors’ Residence) outbreak

    According to the Gaspé Peninsula Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS), two residents, and less than five employees of Lady Maria, located in Maria, have tested positive for COVID-19. Epidemiological investigations are underway and the families have been notified.

    The Lady Maria residence houses 130 residents and nearly 45 workers. The health of the residents is stable for now. All residents and employees have been screened. Residents are isolated in their rooms and all employees must wear personal protective equipment.

    The CISSS says in a press release that “since the confirmation of the first case, in order to prevent the spread of the virus as much as possible in the residence, the CISSS, and the owners have worked closely together to strengthen all the infection prevention and control measures (PCI) planned when positive cases occur.”

    The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is now 323 (+17). Presently, 223 (+1) individuals have recovered. There are 89 (+16) active cases in the region. The number of casualties remain stable at 11.

    The number of COVID-19 cases in the region continues to increase rather rapidly, as 16 new cases are added today. Ten of the cases are located in the MRC of Avignon, two in the MRC of Bonaventure, two in the Côte-de-Gaspé MRC and two in the Magdalen Islands. Tracing is currently underway for all the new cases.

    More cases at the CHSLD in Maria (Residence Saint-Joseph)

    According to Public Health, so far, 17 (stable) residents and 9 (+3) staff members at the Maria CHSLD (government owed long-term care facility) have tested positive for COVID-19.

    That CHSLD houses 91 residents and nearly 130 employees work there.

    The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is now 306. Presently, 222 individuals have recovered. There are 73 active cases in the region. The number of casualties remains stable at 11.
