COVID-19 regional update: No new cases as of April 1

Covid-19

CARLETON – The Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands Public Health Board is reporting no new cases of COVID-19 in the region.  However, there are two additional hospitalizations in connection with the contamination, at the Manoir du Havre in Maria. It brings the total number of infected people being cared for at Maria hospital to five.

Manoir du Havre patients represent the first three COVID-19 hospitalization cases at the Maria hospital. The Public Health Board has not stated if the two additional cases are also residents of the private seniors’ home or if they are employees.

One other woman remains hospitalized in Quebec City. She is the Manoir du Havre employee who unknowingly infected 24 additional people after a trip to Quebec City. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and three days later, on March 27, she was hospitalized in Maria. Her current condition remains unknown.  Quebec City is the designated place to send Gaspesians suffering from severe coronavirus symptoms.

The number of Gaspesians and Magdalen Islanders infected with COVID-19 remains at 37 as of April 1, after an increase of 24 cases the previous day.
