The New Brunswick government has announced that effective immediately residents of the Témiscouata MRC will no longer be permitted to enter the province for day trips. “With the rise of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Lower Saint Lawrence region of Quebec, we must be prudent and keep doing our part to keep New Brunswick safe and slow the spread of COVID-19,” says New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs.
Residents of that area can still cross the border for essential services, such as, for medical appointments, approved work and shared child custody. However, all previously approved registrations to and from Témiscouata for day trips are no longer valid. “This is a cabinet and COVID-19 all-party cabinet committee decision that took into consideration public health advice including epidemiology reports, rising cases and recent change in alerts levels in the Lower Saint Lawrence region of Quebec,” said Higgs.
It is important to note that this change does not affect residents of the Avignon MRC and the community of Listuguj. Day trips for those residents are still permitted as long as they pre-register.

The Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands Public Health Board is reporting no new cases of COVID-19 in the region.
According to Public Health, their data now comes from the Public Health Trajectory information system (TSP). The transition of systems has generated minor discrepancies between case and death data prior to July 26, 2020 and data released today. The differences observed are a reflection of improvements made to data processing. The INSPQ data shows 210 cases in the region, so they’ll conduct quick verifications tomorrow.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands stands at 211. Of those cases, 200 (94.8%) have recovered from the virus. Currently, there are no COVID-19 related hospitalizations from the region (the case mentioned by Public Health last week was not caused by COVID-19). Regionally, fifty-four health care workers have contracted the virus, 21 are CISSS employees.
