Regional update: Six new COVID-19 cases
MARIA: – There are six new cases of COVID-19 in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands today. The regional total has now reached 125.
The six cases are all part of epidemiological clusters already under investigation by the Public Health Board.
There are two seniors included in today’s numbers; one from the Residence Saint Joseph and one from the Manoir du Havre. At the Manoir du Havre, 27 of the 30 residents have been infected by the coronavirus, that is an infection rate of 90%. Of the six casualties in the region, five were residents of the Manoir du Havre. The sixth casualty was a woman from Chandler, who was infected in connection with the Manoir du Havre outbreak.
Today’s COVID-19 numbers also include two healthcare workers. At least 21 healthcare workers have been infected since the start of the pandemic.
Two more IGA employees now have COVID-19. In total there are six IGA (Paspebiac and New Richmond) employees infected with COVID-19.
Fifteen individuals from the region have been hospitalized so far. Four of those victims are hospitalized outside the region, and two are currently in intensive care.

Regional update: 119 infected with COVID-19 in the region
MARIA: – The number of people infected with COVID-19 in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands has reached 119.
The provincial standings presented by the Quebec department of Health and Social Services today, shows an increase of 12 cases, from 107 to 119. However, in the regional statistics, the increase is eight, from 111 to 119. That is because the regional total announced on Friday afternoon included the cases linked to the Paspebiac and New Richmond IGA stores (those cases are included in the provincial count for today).
Meanwhile, the Public Health Board has provided additional details regarding nine cases of COVID-19 in the region.
A second Residence Saint Joseph employee has COVID-19. The Residence Saint Joseph, which is publicly owned, now has six residents who have tested positive, in addition to two employees.
Eight additional residents of the Manoir du Havre have also tested positive. Including the eight new cases, the Manoir du Havre has 26 residents who have tested positive for COVID-19. That is 86.6% of the 30 residents. If we include the employees and those who were infected as a result of that outbreak, the total has now reached 74 cases. It is 62% of the regional total.
The six coronavirus casualties in the region were all tied to the Manoir du Havre outbreak, and include five residents of that facility.
The Paspebiac and New Richmond IGA grocery stores were closed on Friday because four employees tested positive, they were reopened on Saturday morning, at 8 a.m., after a thorough disinfection.
