  • Regional update: first COVID-19 variant registered in the region

    One new case of COVID-19 has been reported today in the Côte-de-Gaspé MRC. The total number of cases in the region is currently 1,756 and one individual is still hospitalized.

    The Public Health Board has confirmed the first case of the variant registered in the region. It must however, be noted that Dr. Yv Bonnier Viger, the region’s director of the Public Health Board has specified that the person affected by the variant has an address in the Gaspé Peninsula but is currently outside the area.

    One new case of COVID-19 has been reported today in the Magdalen Islands. The total number of cases in the region is currently 1,754 and one individual is still hospitalized.

    On March 26 The Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands region will change to Alert Level 2 – Yellow. With the change in alert level the following restrictions will apply:

    • travel between regions not recommended
    • no curfew
    • private gatherings – two households
    • public gatherings – two households, exception for funerals (50 people) no food or alcohol may be served
    • Religious gatherings 250 people (weddings and funerals 50 people)
    • restaurants – people from two households may sit at the same table (you must have id to prove you live in that region where the restaurant is located)

    • community organizations – max 25 participants
