MARIA – The Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands Public Health Board is reporting an eighth death due to COVID-19. It is the second such casualty at the Residence Saint Joseph in two days. That residence is owned by the Government of Quebec and managed by the Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS).
One additional person has COVID-19, which brings the regional total to 168. For now, the new case hasn’t been linked to a known epidemiological cluster and remain under investigation.
The Public Health Board reports that four additional people have recovered from COVID-19, for a total of 92. One person was hospitalized over the last 24 hours, but the number of individuals hospitalized is still two since one patient was released over the same period. The number of health care employees infected with the COVID-19 has increased from 39 to 40. There are now 16 Integrated Health and Social Services Centre employees with COVID-19.
The totals for the province are as follows:
- 2022 deaths (an increase of 163)*
- 28,648 positive cases (an increase of 1110)
- 1716 total hospitalizations (an increase of 32)
- 218 people in intensive care (an increase of 4)
*Some of the deaths recorded today consist of previously unrecorded deaths.
The next provincial briefing will be May 4 (they are now only held three times per week.)
