The number of positive cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands. The bulk of new cases are in the Avignon MRC, as 16 new cases are announced for that MRC. In addition, there are two new cases in the Bonaventure MRC, two in the Rocher-Percé MRC and three in the Magdalen Islands. There is also another positive result, but the location of that individual hasn’t yet been confirmed. Tracing is currently underway for all the new cases.
Public Health has confirmed that there has been another COVID-19-related death. They also confirm that the death isn’t related to the outbreaks at either of the two seniors’ homes in the region.
Public Health states that the difference between provincial and regional statistics can be explained by the rapidly changing situation and that adjustments will be made over the next few days.
CHSLD in Maria (Residence Saint-Joseph)
According to Public Health, so far, 22 (+1) residents and 14 (stable) staff members at the Maria CHSLD (government owed long-term care facility) have tested positive for COVID-19. Four (stable) individuals from the Residence Saint-Joseph have passed away as a result of COVID-19.
That CHSLD houses 91 residents and nearly 130 employees work there.
Lady Maria (RPA – Private Seniors’ Residence) outbreak
According to the Gaspé Peninsula Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS), 26 residents (+4), and less than five employees of Lady Maria, located in Maria, have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Lady Maria residence is home to 130 individuals and nearly 45 staff members work there.
COVID-19 in regional schools
The René-Lévesque School Service Centre has confirmed that there are positive cases at the following educational facilities: école Bourg de Carleton (1), école Antoine-Bernard de Carleton (1), and école des Audomarois Saint-Omer (1). The three individuals are currently in quarantine. All parents from those schools have been contacted. A public health investigation is underway to contact those who were in close contact with the confirmed cases. The results will be made public within 48 to 72 hours.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is now 393 (+24). Presently, 243 (+4) individuals have recovered. There are 136 active cases in the region. The total number of deaths is now total 14 (+1). There are currently two (+1) individuals who are hospitalized outside the region.

Please note that the Gaspé Peninsula is currently at Alert Level 3 (orange). At this level all citizens are asked avoid all unnecessary social contact. The following measures are now in place.
