Regional update: Four inmates at the Percé Detention Centre test postive for COVID-19

There are 9 new cases of COVID-19 in the region. One of the new cases is in the Bonaventure MRC, three in the Rocher-Percé MRC, three in the Côte-de-Gaspé MRC, one is in the Magdalen Islands and one at an address not yet confirmed.

Public Health states that the difference between provincial and regional statistics can be explained by the rapidly changing situation and that adjustments will be made over the next few days.

New Carlisle Detention Centre

Forty-six (stable) inmates and eleven (stable) employees have tested positive for COVID. Of those testing positive, eight (stable) employees and forty-one (stable) inmate have recovered from the virus. Forty-seven individuals are currently being detained at the New Carlisle Facility.

After verification Public Health regarding the rules for categorizing cases, it was determined that the New Carlisle facility is a closed environment with temporary accommodation. For that type of facility, the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) recommends entering the permanent address of cases. As a result, the cases related to the outbreak at the New Carlisle Detention Centre were all reclassified by their permanent address.

Please note that SPEC will continue to keep readers apprised of the number of cases at the New Carlisle Detention Centre, however, those numbers won’t correlate directly with the region’s daily totals.

Percé Detention Centre

Four (stable) employees and four (+4) inmates at the Percé Detention Centre have tested positive for COVID-19. Two (stable) employees has since recovered from the virus. Thirty individuals are currently being detained at the Percé Facility.

Manoir St-Augustin outbreak

Sixty-eight (stable) residents and thirty-six (stable) employees of Manoir St-Augustin, a private seniors’ residence (RPA) have so far, tested positive for COVID-19. Seven (stable) residents have passed away as a result of COVID-19.

CHSLD Mgr-Ross Gaspé CHSLD outbreak

Less than five employees and six (stable) residents have so far, tested positive for COVID-19. One (stable) resident has passed away as a result of COVID-19.

Updated List – Réné-Levesque School Service Centre

The Réné-Levesque School Service Centre has confirmed 14 (stable) cases. Two (-1) classrooms are presently quarantined.

The educational facilities with positive cases are:

  • Centre de formation professionnelle, Bonaventure (3 cases – 1 class)
  • École aux Quatre-Vents, Bonaventure (1 case)
  • École La Source, Paspébiac (2 cases)
  • École Le Phare, Port Daniel (5 cases – 1 class)
  • École Saint-Bernard, Gascons (1 case)
  • Centre d’éducation des adultes, Chandler (1 case)
  • École St-Joseph, Chandler (1 case)

Eastern Shores School Board

The educational facilities with positives cases are:

  • Shigawake Port-Daniel
  • Belle Anse Elementary

CHSLD in Maria (Residence Saint-Joseph)no longer considered an outbreak: 24 residents and 22 staff members tested positive for COVID-19. Eleven residents passed away as a result of Covid-19. Ninety-one residents and nearly 130 employees work there.

Maria Hospital – no longer considered an outbreak: Ten employees tested positive and no patients were involved in the outbreak.

Lady Maria (RPA – Private Seniors’ Residence)no longer considered an outbreak: Forty-four residents and thirteen employees at Lady Maria tested positive for COVID-19. The Lady Maria residence is home to 130 individuals and nearly 45 employees work there.

CHSLD New Carlisle – no longer considered an outbreak: Eighteen employees and fifteen residents were affected by this outbreak. Four residents from the CHSLD New Carlisle passed away as a result of COVID-19. CHSLD New Carlisle houses 66 residents and employs 118 people.

Chandler Hospital – no longer considered an outbreak: Less than five employees tested positive.

Gaspé Hospital outbreak – no longer considered an outbreak: Nine employees tested positive and less than five patients were affected by this outbreak. One patient passed away as a result of COVID-19.

Centre d’hébergement Mgr-RossMulti-Services Sectorno longer considered an outbreak: Less than 5 employees tested positive for COVID-19. The CISSS states that this part of the facility has a multifunctional purpose.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is now 1,388 (+9). Presently, 1,271 (+6) individuals have recovered. There are 76 (+3) active cases in the region. The total number of deaths is 41 (stable). There are currently 7 (+1) individuals hospitalized.
