Regional update: New outbreak at Maria Hospital

Public Health has announced 20 new cases of COVID-19. Five of the new cases are in Avignon MRC, eight in Bonaventure MRC, and seven in Rocher-Percé. Tracing is currently underway for all the new cases.

Public Health states that the difference between provincial and regional statistics can be explained by the rapidly changing situation and that adjustments will be made over the next few days.

CHSLD in Maria (Residence Saint-Joseph)

The number of cases among residents at Saint-Joseph is 23 (stable). Twenty-one (+1) staff members at the Maria CHSLD (government owed long-term care facility) have tested positive for COVID-19. Seven (stable) individuals from the Residence Saint-Joseph have passed away as a result of COVID-19.

That CHSLD houses 91 residents and nearly 130 employees work there.

Lady Maria (RPA – Private Seniors’ Residence) outbreak

Thirty-nine residents (stable), and eight (stable) employees at Lady Maria have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Lady Maria residence is home to 130 individuals and nearly 45 employees work there.

Maria Hospital outbreak

According to the CISSS there is currently a COVID-19 outbreak at Maria Hospital. Less than five employees have tested positive and, so far, no patients are involved in the outbreak.

The Public Health Board says that all known individuals who had significant contact with the positive cases have been isolated. Measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the population including: strengthening infection prevention and control measures (PCI), massive screening of affected teams and general disinfection of the premises. The hospital’s PCI team is being supported by a Tactical Response Team (SWAT).

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is now 596 (+20). Presently, 333 (+14) individuals have recovered. There are 245 (+6) active cases in the region. The total number of deaths is 18 (stable). There are currently six individuals hospitalized, a total of 29 (stable) overall since the beginning of the pandemic. There is one patient in intensive care (stable).
