Regional update: Outbreak results in two additional deaths

Résidence Saint-Joseph

The number of cases of COVID-19 in the region continues to peak. Twelve new cases were announced on September 25. Nine of the cases are located in the MRC of Avignon, one in the MRC of Bonaventure, and two in the Magdalen Islands.

Public Health states that the difference between provincial and regional statistics can be explained by the rapidly changing situation and that adjustments will be made over the next few days.

Outbreak at the CHSLD in Maria (Residence St-Joseph)

According to Public Health, so far, 17 (+2) residents and 6 staff members at the Maria CHSLD (government owed long-term care facility) have tested positive for COVID-19. Two individuals have passed away as a result of the recent COVID-19 outbreak at that residence for the elderly.

That CHSLD houses 91 residents and nearly 130 employees work there.

Suspension of visitation at Maria Hospital

The CISSS has suspended all day visits at the Maria Hospital until further notice. Evening visitation from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m will continue, however, visitors must follow safety measures such as wearing a surgical mask and washing hands when entering and leaving the hospital. According to the CISSS the decision to suspend visits is preventive and temporary.

Testing trailer available in Paspebiac

A COVID-19 testing trailer is now available in the parking lot of the Paspebiac CLSC. Like all the other screening sites in the region, it is by appointment only. Individuals wishing to get tested should call 1-877-644-4545 to make an appointment. The CISSS would also like to remind its clientele that there is a greater chance of obtaining a positive result for COVID-19 when the person exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, difficulty in breathing, fever, loss of taste or smell) or if the person has come in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
