Regional update: Outbreak results in two additional deaths
The number of cases of COVID-19 in the region continues to peak. Twelve new cases were announced on September 25. Nine of the cases are located in the MRC of Avignon, one in the MRC of Bonaventure, and two in the Magdalen Islands.
Public Health states that the difference between provincial and regional statistics can be explained by the rapidly changing situation and that adjustments will be made over the next few days.
Outbreak at the CHSLD in Maria (Residence St-Joseph)
According to Public Health, so far, 17 (+2) residents and 6 staff members at the Maria CHSLD (government owed long-term care facility) have tested positive for COVID-19. Two individuals have passed away as a result of the recent COVID-19 outbreak at that residence for the elderly.
That CHSLD houses 91 residents and nearly 130 employees work there.
Suspension of visitation at Maria Hospital
The CISSS has suspended all day visits at the Maria Hospital until further notice. Evening visitation from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m will continue, however, visitors must follow safety measures such as wearing a surgical mask and washing hands when entering and leaving the hospital. According to the CISSS the decision to suspend visits is preventive and temporary.
Testing trailer available in Paspebiac
A COVID-19 testing trailer is now available in the parking lot of the Paspebiac CLSC. Like all the other screening sites in the region, it is by appointment only. Individuals wishing to get tested should call 1-877-644-4545 to make an appointment. The CISSS would also like to remind its clientele that there is a greater chance of obtaining a positive result for COVID-19 when the person exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, difficulty in breathing, fever, loss of taste or smell) or if the person has come in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is now 290. Presently, 220 individuals have recovered. There are 59 active cases in the region. There are two additional deaths, bringing the total to 11.

Regional update: More cases at St-Joseph, the CISSS needs support staff
The Public Health board is reporting fifteen new cases of COVID-19 in the region. Thirteen of the cases are located in the MRC of Avignon, one in the Côte-de-Gaspé MRC and one in the Magdalen Islands. Epidemiological investigations of the cases are underway.

According to Public Health, so far, fifteen (+6) residents and less than five staff members at the Maria CHSLD (government owed long-term care facility) have tested positive for COVID-19.
That CHSLD houses 91 residents and nearly 130 employees work there.
When there are fewer than five cases, the exact number is not released because of privacy concerns.

Twinned communities with New Brunswick
The Government of New Brunswick has announced that effective noon (N.B. time), September 25, twinning with communities in Avignon and Temiscouata Municipal Regional Counties are suspended, with the exception of the communities of Listuguj First Nation and Pointe-à-la-Croix.
All previously approved registrations from Avignon MRC (including Listuguj First Nation and Pointe-à-la-Croix) for non-essential single trips and multi-day registrations will no longer be valid.
Residents of Avignon and Temiscouata MRCs will still be permitted to go to New Brunswick for essential reasons such as medical appointments, approved work and shared child custody.
Multi-day registrations approved for the transportation of elementary and secondary students from Listuguj First Nation and Pointe-à-la-Croix, and those issued for work, medical care and childcare/child custody will still be permitted.
