Regional update: one new case in Avignon
There is one new cases of COVID-19 to announce today. An investigation is underway, for the moment the case doesn’t appear to be linked with those in Campbellton, New Brunswick.
The total number of cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is 186, of those cases 173 have recovered (93%). The total number of deaths is 9. Eighteen people have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19. Forty-six health care workers in the region have contracted the virus (18 of them are CISSS employees).
The breakdown of the 186 cases by health region (containing a hospital) is as follows:
- Bay of Chaleur sector – 135 (an increase of one)
- Rocher-Percé sector – 29 (stable)
- Magdalen Islands – 9 (stable)
- Côte-de-Gaspé – 11 (stable)

- 5105 – deaths (an increase of 24, 14 of which took place before June 3)
- 53,485 – positive cases (an increase of 144)
- 871 – total hospitalizations (a decrease of 43)
- 114 – people in intensive care (a decrease of 3)
*As of May 19, the number of cured patients who are still hospitalized because they are waiting to be transferred will be excluded from the total number of hospitalizations. With the withdrawal of these patients, there is a significant decrease in the number of regular hospitalizations, but no decrease in the number of intensive care hospitalizations.
Regional update: only six active cases
There are no new cases of COVID-19 to announce today. The current statistics for the region are as follows.
The total number of cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is 185, of those cases 171 have recovered (92.4%). The total number of deaths is stable at 8. Eighteen people have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19. Currently only one of those individuals is hospitalized. That person is in intensive care outside the region Forty-six health care workers in the region have contracted the virus (18 of them are CISSS employees).
