  • Regional update: Only nine new cases announced today

    There are nine new cases of COVID-19 today. Five in Avignon MRC and four in Bonaventure MRC. Tracing is currently underway for all the new cases.

    Public Health states that the difference between provincial and regional statistics can be explained by the rapidly changing situation and that adjustments will be made over the next few days.

    CHSLD in Maria (Residence Saint-Joseph)

    The number of cases among residents at Saint-Joseph is (stable) at 22. Fifteen (stable) staff members at the Maria CHSLD (government owed long-term care facility) have tested positive for COVID-19. Five (stable) individuals from the Residence Saint-Joseph have passed away as a result of COVID-19.

    That CHSLD houses 91 residents and nearly 130 employees work there.

    Lady Maria (RPA – Private Seniors’ Residence) outbreak

    36 residents (+1), and six (+1) employees at Lady Maria have tested positive for COVID-19.

    The Lady Maria residence is home to 130 individuals and nearly 45 staff members work there.

    Update – Réné-Levesque School Service Centre

    The Réné-Levesque School Service Centre has confirmed nine (+2) cases. One classroom has been quarantined. The educational facilities with positives cases are: CFP Chandler-Bonaventure (Bonaventure), CFP L’Envol (Carleton-sur-Mer), École Antoine-Bernard (Carleton-sur-Mer), École Bourg (Carleton-sur-Mer), École des Audomarois (Saint-Omer) and École Le Phare (Port-Daniel).

    The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is now 459 (+9). Presently, 272 (+6) individuals have recovered. There are 172 (+3) active cases in the region. The total number of deaths is 15 (stable). There are currently three individuals (+*1) hospitalized outside the region, a total of 23 overall since the beginning of the pandemic. One patient is in intensive care.

    *There is a new hospitalization, but a previous hospitalization recovered, so the number remains at three.


    Gaspé hospital

    Gaspé Hospital is now the designated centre for COVID-19 cases in the region that require hospitalization. Patients requiring intensive care, as well as, residents living in the vicinity of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts will continue to be transferred to the Rimouski hospital.

    The floor at the Gaspé Hospital that is dedicated to COVID-19 cases is consists of 10 hospital beds and a dedicated team in order to reduce transmission.

    Alert Level 4 – Red

    Maria, Carleton-sur-Mer and Nouvelle: This new alert level will go in effect at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 5 and will continue until further notice.

  • Regional update: 29 new cases during weekend of October 3 – 4

    On October 3, 11 new COVID-19 cases were announced in the region. Seven in Avignon MRC, three in Bonaventure MRC, and one in Côte-de-Gaspé.

    On October 4, 18 additional COVID-19 cases were announced in the region. Six in Avignon MRC, two in Bonaventure MRC, four in Rocher-Percé MRC, four in Côte-de-Gaspé and two in the Magdalen Islands (one isn’t currently in the region). Tracing is currently underway for all the new cases.

    October 4: 35 residents (+2), and five (stable) employees of Lady Maria test positive for COVID-19.

    Alert Level 4 – Red

    Given the worrisome epidemiological situation in the three municipalities of Maria, Carleton-sur-Mer and Nouvelle, the Regional Director of Public Health for the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands, Dr. Yv Bonnier Viger, has announced that those municipalities will be moved to the maximum alert level (red). This new alert level will go in effect at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 5 and will continue until further notice.
