Regional update: 23 new cases of COVID-19
Public Health has announced 23 new cases of COVID-19. Fourteen of the new cases are in Avignon MRC, two in Bonaventure MRC, six in Rocher-Percé and one in Côte-de-Gaspé. Tracing is currently underway for all the new cases.
Public Health states that the difference between provincial and regional statistics can be explained by the rapidly changing situation and that adjustments will be made over the next few days.
CHSLD in Maria (Residence Saint-Joseph)
The number of cases among residents at Saint-Joseph is 23 (+1). Seventeen (+2) staff members at the Maria CHSLD (government owed long-term care facility) have tested positive for COVID-19. Five (stable) individuals from the Residence Saint-Joseph have passed away as a result of COVID-19.
That CHSLD houses 91 residents and nearly 130 employees work there.
Lady Maria (RPA – Private Seniors’ Residence) outbreak
Thirty-eight residents (+2), and seven (+1) employees at Lady Maria have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Lady Maria residence is home to 130 individuals and nearly 45 staff members work there.
Update – Réné-Levesque School Service Centre
The Réné-Levesque School Service Centre has confirmed thirteen (+4) cases. Two classrooms have been quarantined. The educational facilities with positives cases are: CFP Chandler-Bonaventure (Bonaventure), CFP L’Envol (Carleton-sur-Mer), École Antoine-Bernard (Carleton-sur-Mer), École Bourg (Carleton-sur-Mer), École des Audomarois (Saint-Omer) and École Le Phare (Port-Daniel).

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is now 482 (+23). Presently, 278 (+6) individuals have recovered. There are 188 (+16) active cases in the region. The total number of deaths is 16 (+1). The death occurred in the community and is not linked to the outbreaks at the two seniors’ residences. There are currently two individuals (-1) hospitalized, a total of 23 overall since the beginning of the pandemic. There are no patients in intensive care (-1).

The Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is at Alert Level 3 – Orange, with the exception of the following three municipalities: Maria, Carleton-sur-Mer and Nouvelle, which are at Alert Level 4 – Red.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands is now 459 (+9). Presently, 272 (+6) individuals have recovered. There are 172 (+3) active cases in the region. The total number of deaths is 15 (stable). There are currently three individuals (+*1) hospitalized outside the region, a total of 23 overall since the beginning of the pandemic. One patient is in intensive care.
*There is a new hospitalization, but a previous hospitalization recovered, so the number remains at three.
Gaspé hospital
Gaspé Hospital is now the designated centre for COVID-19 cases in the region that require hospitalization. Patients requiring intensive care, as well as, residents living in the vicinity of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts will continue to be transferred to the Rimouski hospital.
The floor at the Gaspé Hospital that is dedicated to COVID-19 cases is consists of 10 hospital beds and a dedicated team in order to reduce transmission.

Maria, Carleton-sur-Mer and Nouvelle: This new alert level will go in effect at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 5 and will continue until further notice.
