Regional Update: August 1st to 3rd

The Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands Public Health Board has reported that there were four new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the regional total to 210 cases. The new cases are located as follows: Magdalen Islands (1), Bonaventure MRC (1) and Avignon MRC (2).

The new cases in the Magdalen Islands and the MRC of Bonaventure are considered to no longer be contagious, they were either false positives or have already recovered.

As of August 3, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands reached 210. Of those cases, 193 (91.9%) have recovered from the virus. Currently, there are no COVID-19 related hospitalizations from the region. Regionally, fifty-four (+1) health care workers have contracted the virus, 21 are CISSS employees.

Evolution of daily cases

Starting Saturday, August 1, residents of the Avignon Municipal Regional County, Listuguj First Nation and the Temiscouata Municipal Regional County are permitted entry to New Brunswick. Residents of those three “twinned communities” visiting for the day, without any overnight stays will not need to self-isolate when they enter New Brunswick.

In addition, residents of the Atlantic provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador) who travel into, but not beyond, those same three communities as part of same day travel with no overnight stays will not need to self-isolate when they return to New Brunswick.

The New Brunswick government requires anyone entering New Brunswick from the “twinned communities” to:

pre-register through www.gnb.ca/TravelRegistration;
prove residency;
attest that they are free of COVID-19 symptoms;
attest they have not travelled outside their communities, except into an Atlantic Province, in the previous 14 days;
select Quebec twinning as reason for travel.

Regional update: Two new cases on July 31

The Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands Public Health Board is reporting two new cases of COVID-19, bringing the regional total to 206 cases. The new cases are in the Rocher-Percé MRC and the Haute Gaspésie MRC.

As of July 31, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands reached 206. Of those cases 186 (90.3%) have recovered from the virus. Currently, there are no COVID-19 related hospitalizations from the region. Regionally, fifty-three health care workers have contracted the virus, 21 are CISSS employees.
